Understanding tradition through the non traditional

For Metis* and Cree artist Morgan Possberg Denne, sometimes understanding and reclaiming culture must be done through non-traditional means. Their exhibition, Collecting Spaghnum Moss, explores the idea of relearning ancestral skills and re-establishing lost connections. “I think that I’ve had this experience, like many others have, where you don’t really know tradition or culture, but you’re kind of doing your best to learn what you can from who you can or from where you can,” said Denne. The Calgary-based artist’s exhibit explores the loss of connections with ancestral lineage caused by the foster care system and adoption.
