Spot a Penguin and know its a safe place

By Lynda Powless Editor In May a local school sent out a letter to parents. The kind of letter no one wants to see. A student walking home was approached by a man in a truck asking if he needed a ride home. Fortunately the student did not approach the truck and instead rushed home and told a parent. That note haunted Sonny Maracle, a local man involved in a number of Six Nations land protection issues. He said he drove over to Ohsweken and looked over the route most students would take walking home. There was no crossing guard as there has been in the past, no one for students to turn to. So he launched the CARETAKERS, a group aimed at ensuring the safety and security of children
