By Bree Duwyn Writer The Six Nations Drug Strategy Committee will be honouring International Overdose Awareness Day with a candle-light vigil in Veterans Park to remember those lost to addiction. The event will be an opportunity to reflect on practical ways to prevent overdoses, where community members will speak about their healing journeys and will also have Naloxone training stations set up. The Six Nations Drug Strategy Committee is a local committee that “aims to reduce the harms associated with substance use,” said Eve Kahama, Health Administration’s integrated drug strategy coordinator. “This includes raising awareness, reducing stigma, and advocating for the Six Nations community and its membership.” The committee has been officially in place since Sept. 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, operations were delayed until 2021.
