That raises the question of whether provinces might follow suit. Simon, an Inuk from Kangiqsualujjuaq in northern Quebec, gained recognition for her work on Arctic and Indigenous issues and advocating for Inuit rights, youth, education and culture. But her appointment was not without controversy.
