By Camille Bains THE CANADIAN PRESS Nearly five per cent of cannabis users are at risk of developing an addiction to the drug, a new study from Statistics Canada says. The analysis of data collected from more than 101,000 people aged 15 and older as part of the annual Canadian Community Health Survey showed that 4.7 per cent of people who used cannabis in the past year were at risk of addiction. Those people were considered to have “impaired control” over their cannabis use, StatCan said. The finding is based on phone and in-person surveys done in 2019 and 2020, but StatCan said the pandemic lowered the response rate by nearly half in 2020, from 54 per cent a year earlier.
