The Northern Lights Business and Cultural Showcase won’t happen next year as scheduled due to concerns about the involvement of the NunatuKavut Community Council, a non-rights-holding group that identifies as Inuit from Labrador. The Northern Lights event has been held every two years, starting in 2008, and was set to take place again in February in Montreal. In a joint news release, the organizers — Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce and Labrador North Chamber of Commerce — cited the changing “sociopolitical environment and relationships across the North” as one of the reasons for the cancellation.
