Kapyong redevelopment could begin before end of year, says Treaty One

 By Dave Baxter  Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Treaty One First Nations leaders say they expect construction to begin soon on the former Kapyong Barracks project as they have taken one of the final steps towards its transformation into what will one day be this country’s largest urban reserve. On Tuesday, the Sagkeeng First Nation held a ratification vote with 97% of ballots cast in favour of the community signing on to a joint lands management system. With all seven Treaty One Nations in agreement to operate under the unified Joint Reserve Land Code, the Treaty One Nations said that paves the way for a massive development in Winnipeg.
