Catcheway is a member of the Ojibwe First Nation in Manitoba, but has lived in St. John’s since 2008. A big reason for moving to Newfoundland was safety, he says. “My late sister, she was murdered back in 2012. I really try to do everything I can to spread the word about missing and murdered Indigenous women,” Catcheway said as he attended a demonstration on Jan. 27 at the Confederation Building in St. John’s that called for the shutdown and investigation of the Marlborough Hotel in Winnipeg.
