By Dave Baxter Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Manitoba’s top Indigenous leaders met face-to-face with the Prime Minister in Ottawa this week, and say the meeting was an opportunity to let him know they want to see changes in the way the federal government funds and supports First Nations communities across the country and here in Manitoba. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) Grand Chief Cathy Merrick, Southern Chiefs Organization (SCO) Grand Chief Jerry Daniels, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) Grand Chief Garrison Settee, and Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Regional Chief for Manitoba Cindy Woodhouse.
