Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs meet with Dutch Ambassador

The Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council (HCCC) met with Dutch Ambassador Ines Coppoolse at Six Nations of the Grand River in November. The Dutch Ambassador to Canada met with the HCCC and Clan Mothers. The HCCC displayed the Guswentah (Two Row) Wampum Belt. The belt, from the early 1600’s, confirms the Treaty relationship between the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the Dutch . The relationship, the statement says, between the Haudenosaunee and Dutch was one of travelling side by side down the river of life, agreeing to live in peace, friendship and trust. The visit re-affirmed the “eternal agreement based on mutual respect and non-interference,” the statement said. The Ambassador presented the Haudenosaunee Confederacy with a double string of white wampum to renew the friendship. In reciprocity, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy gave the Ambassador
