2 community welcome poles raised in Nisga’a village for 1st time in over a decade

A group of around a dozen people work together to carry a large wooden totem pole above their heads.

A team of six carvers has been working on a pair of welcome poles for the Nisga'a community of Gingolx since October. For the village's deputy chief councillor, the poles' creation represents a return to the community's freedom to practise its culture.
