By Lisa Iesse Writer A new film about the former Mohawk Institute is being screened in Brantford and Hamilton by the Woodland Cultural Centre. Silent No More takes a journey into the doors of the former residential school, to help make seen and heard the unspeakable and often untold stories of Survivors. In the film, Survivor Beau Miller sums up the backwardness of the residential school system he experienced, saying, “Residential School is the only school you’re considered a survivor and not a graduate.” The former Mohawk Institute was the longest-operating residential school in Canada, built to destroy Indigenous identity and culture. The Woodland Cultural Centre was created on the same site, and is in the process of transforming its spaces and lands, dedicated to the revitalization of Hodinohsho:ni cultures
