Now in its 41st year, the Chippewas of Rama First Nation annual powwow has gained renown throughout the province over the decades. Taking place at the John Snake Memorial Community Grounds, thousands of visitors are expected and more than 100 food, arts and crafts vendors will descend on the First Nation over the upcoming weekend. The memorial grounds are named after John Snake, who died in 2014 at the age of 52. For 11 years he served as Rama’s cultural coordinator. A patient teacher, Snake was a respected storyteller and singer. A craftsman, he passed First Nation language and culture on to younger generations through drum making and playing.
